Serbian men’s team lifted the trophy and made a good atmosphere ahead of World Cup which starts in 10 days in Belgium.
Competition within the preparation period for the planetary championship was held in Belgrade last on Friday and Saturday. This was the fourth edition of this tournament and the second time it was played in Belgrade. It was predicted for fixtures to be played outside on Kalemegdan. The location was moved to the indoor basketball court in sport center Dynamic at Dorcol due to bad weather conditions.
Despite that, we saw good attendance that was supporting host team Serbia on their road to victory. We saw matches in women’s and men’s categories during two busy days in the capital of Serbia.
Quarterfinals, semifinals, and final games were scheduled for Saturday for both sexes. In the women’s category, there were fixtures between England and Hungary 2, Austria and Poland, Hungary 1 and Serbia23, and Poland 2 and Hungary. Quarterfinals in the men’s category were played between Serbia and Serbia23, Mongolia and France 1, Netherland and France 2, and Austria and England 2.
Semifinal between England and Poland in the ladies’ category ended with Poland’s victory. Hungary’s women’s national squad took a thrilling win over Germany in the second semifinal. Poland women’s team won the tournament as they destroyed devastated Hungary in the final game by 19-11. Third-place match between England and Germany finished with an English victory.
The men’s tournament had the same dose of excitement as the women’s part of the draw. Serbia defeated France 1 in the semifinal and Austria came out as a winner in a nerve-wracking game against the Netherlands. The final game didn’t have any doubt regarding the winner because Serbia took a superior win over Austria with 21-12. The game for third place ended with Netherland’s victory over France
Serbian roster included Strahinja Stojacic, Dejan Majstorovic, Marko Brankovic and Mihailo Vasic. They seem to be ready for challenges in Antwerp.
