World Cup in Antwerp in Belgium, the successor of the World Cup in 2019, is almost here. USA national squad for this competition is announced in the men’s and women’s categories. The national team committee has chosen teams that will represent this country.
The men’s team is consisting of Kidani Brutus, Khalil Iverson, Dominique Jones, and James Parrott.
Kidani Brutus has significant experience gained in Harlem and he was part of a USA 3×3 basketball 2020 Olympic qualifying tournament camp. Dominique Jones is a famous face in USA 3×3 basketball and he attended many USA and FIBA 3X3 events. Khalil Iverson is going to have their first appearance in the USA squad at this World Cup and he has some international experience. Finally, James Parrott was taking part at the 2021 Red Bull 3x USA Basketball South Regional.
The men’s squad won the last World Cup in Amsterdam and their coach will be Joe Lewandowski. The USA men’s team begins the tournament in their pool on June 21 with matches against Austria and Slovenia. The women’s squad won the planetary championship in 2012 and 2014. Their head coach will be Kara Lawson who led them from the bench to the Olympics gold last year. The USA Women’s squad starts the championship in June with fixtures where their opponents will be New Zealand and Austria.
The women’s team includes Cierra Burdick, Lauren Cox, Ashley Joens, and Hailey Van Lith.
Cierra Burdick was the winner of the World Cup in 2014 and has been part of many national teams, including 5X5 basketball. Lauren Cox is going to appear first time in the senior USA women’s squad as she previously played for younger age national teams. Ashley Joens lifted trophies at FIBA World Cup U19 in 2019. Hailey Van Lith was a Most Valuable Player of World Cup U18 in 2019 where her country was first-placed. She also plays 5×5 basketball.
The long-waited tournament will take place from 21 to 26 June in Groenplatz in the city center in front of a passionate Belgium local crowd.
