Riga is a winner of the Montreal Masters!

The heated atmosphere in Canada was spectacular last weekend during the Montreal Masters. Riga is a champion of the sixth Masters in the World Tour 2022. It was the first victory for the Latvian team in his year in big tournaments.

We saw amazing moves, actions, and points from attractive teams from all over the world. Let’s briefly remind ourselves what happened during the previous weekend.

Riga and Omaha 3Ball were first-placed and second-placed teams from pool A.

Sakiai and San Juan progressed to the quarterfinals from group B.

Beijing and Princeton succeeded to qualify for the final 8 from pool C.

Vienna and Ulaanbaatar got the ticket for the elimination stage in group D.

The quarterfinals were thrilling and exciting.

In the first quarterfinal, Riga beat Princeton with 21-18Vienna pulled out a 19-15 victory against San Juan. Sakiai won against Ulaanbaatar in overtime with 21-19. Finally, Omaha defeated Beijing with 19-18.

The semifinals were no less interesting. 

Riga pulled out a victory over Vienna with 21-14. Sakiai beat Omaha with 20-18.

The final of this tournament was played between Riga and Sakiai and it was fun to watch it. Neither team had a big advantage in the first couple of minutes of the clash. Riga had the first bigger advantage of 8-5 and 11-5 Sakai woke up and came close as the result suddenly was 12-10 in favor of Riga.

The peak of excitement happened when the result was tied two minutes before the end of the match – 12-12. Riga suddenly was in fifth gear and increased its advantage to 18-14. It was a crucial moment of the game. Karlis Lasmanis, Riga’s star, scored a decisive point for 19-17. Riga won 19-17 in the clash of Baltic neighbors with 8 points of Karlis. Here are highlights:

Karlis Lasmanis was the best scorer in the competition with 48 points and got the MVP award.

The next Masters will take place in Utrecht, Netherland.
