Germany won the first tournament in the Women’s Series in 2022

Germany lifted the trophy in the first station of the Women’s series in Israel city of Tel Aviv.  The third season of this prestigious competition started on Saturday, May 28. Previous winners were France in 2019 and Germany in 2021. This season will have 10 events and overcome the 2021 edition that had 7 tournaments.

The innovation is that the Women’s Series will host teams registered by national federations and private promoters. Xross Sports Marketing, a subsidiary of Japanese company Xebio, became the first private entity to take place in this high-level competition for women. This company is also an organizer of 3×3 Exe Premier, the first national professional league in the world, launched in 2014.

Twelve teams competed and they were distributed into four groups of three. After two games, the two best-ranked teams in every pool progressed to the quarterfinals which were elimination round.

In the first game of the event, Lithuania won against Germany 17-14. German players were looking nervous and they were not at their best. The eight best teams who played in the elimination round were:  Lithuania, Israel, Poland, Ulaanbaatar Amazons, France, EXEWING, Netherland, and Germany.

Germany won all four matches after starting with a defeat and convincingly defended its title from last year. Actually, in the final against Lithuania there was the same result but in opposite direction. Lithuania started the game well, but Germany was not impressed by that. Germany had player Alexandra Wilke in the mood.

Alexandra was the best German player in the final and she scored 8 points and 4 key assists. Germany played without a substitute and that fact makes their victory even bigger. Overall, the best player in the tournament was also from Germany. Sonja Greinacher took the MVP award after leading their team with her points, rebounds, assists, and block throughout the whole competition.

The next station of the Women’s series will be in the French city Poitiers on June, 28. This will be the third time Poitiers organizes a competition on the 3×3 women’s professional circuit.
