31 teams will compete at AmeriCup 2022

The second edition of the FIBA 3×3 AmeriCup will be held in Miami, Florida. It will feature a record number of 30 teams from 18 countries on November 4-6, 2022.

A total of 17 teams will compete in the men’s part of the draw. The best 10 teams in the ranking (according to their ranking position in 3×3 Federation Ranking of November 1, 2021) were directly drawn to the main draw. The next 7 were redistributed to 2 different qualifying draws. Both champions will join the main draw.

Guayana, Ecuador, Haiti, and Aruba will compete in Qualifying Draw A.

Saint Lucia, Jamaica, and Barbados are members of Qualifying draw B.

There will be four groups with three teams in the main draw.

United States, Guatemala, and Brazil will participate in pool A.

Puerto Rico, Argentina, and Trinidad and Tobago will be members of group B.

Canada, Mexico, and Qualifying Draw A winner will compete in group C.

Dominican Republic, Chile, and Qualifying Draw B winner will try to qualify from group D to the quarterfinals.

There are also qualifications in the women’s part of the draw. Ten teams will start directly from the main draw in the women’s category and three will compete in qualification draw.

Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados will compete in qualifications for two free spots in the main draw.

 In group A, members are the United States, Guyana, Colombia.

 Canada, Guatemala, and first-placed team in qualifications are participating in group B.

 Chile, Argentina, and Jamaica are competing in pool C.

 Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and second-placed team in qualifications will play against each other in group D.

The two best teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals, which is the first elimination phase. Semifinal and final will decide the champion in both men’s and women’s categories.

The USA was very successful in a previous competition. The United States won the first edition of the Fiba 3×3 AmeriCup in both categories on November 12-14, 2021. Both teams beat Brazil who finished second in the standings. It was also held in Miami, USA.
