Vienna, the Austrian capital, will welcome the best 3×3 national teams on the planet as the 2023 World Cup starts on May 30. 20 teams per gender will compete for six days for the title of the world champion. Rathausplatz, the city center, will host everybody interested in this glamorous annual event.
Also, the tournament has big significance since the three best teams per each category get tickets for the Olympic Qualifying tournament for 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.In each gender, there are four groups with five national teams. After four rounds, the first-placed team goes to the quarterfinal directly. Second-placed and third-placed teams in each pool will play in the Play-In phase for securing a card for the Top 8 phase.
Group stage games are scheduled for the first four days of the competition, while the Play-In phase and quarterfinals are going to be held on Saturday. Semifinals, fixture for third place, and final game are planned for Sunday.
The no. 1 favorite to become World Champion in the men’s category is, without a doubt, Serbia. The five-time winner is led by, Dejan Majstorovic and Strahinja Stojacic, a lethal duo from very successful team Ub.
Second favorite to claim the long-awaited trophy is Latvia, Olympic Champion from Tokyo. Karlis Lasmanis and Nauris Miezis aka “Batman and Robin” are playing together in Beijing this season and are eager to show the world that the event in Japan was not a coincidence.
According to 3×3 basketball experts, the third country that is closest to winning the gold is Netherlands. Worthy de Jong and Dimeo Van Der Horst are former basketball players who are in very good shape in Amsterdam and Futian, respectively.
Belgium, USA, and Puerto Rico could be three countries that can seriously make the job tough for the three biggest favorites, though.
In the women’s category, France, Canada, Germany, and USA are the main contenders for the title.
