Masters was held in the Philippine city of Cebu for the first time in its history. Great names of 3×3 basketball gathered last weekend to compete for the title of the best. Riga, Latvian team, the biggest tournament in World Tour in front of a passionate crowd. It was their second Masters in the World Tour 2022. So, let’s check what we saw in Asia in the previous two days.
Doha was the best team in qualifications whereas also Manila and Ludhiana took place.
Antwerp and Omaha proceeded to the quarterfinals from group A.
Riga and Utsunomiya were the best teams in pool B.
Amsterdam and Saitama qualified for the elimination stage from pool C.
Ulaanbaatar and Lausanne got tickets to the best 8 from group D.
The quarterfinals were thrilling to fans in the Philippines.
In the first quarterfinal, Antwerp defeated Saitama with 21-19. Ulaanbaatar beat Utsunomiya with 21-17. Riga won against Lausanne with 21-13. Amsterdam pulled out an 18-14 victory against Omaha.
The semifinals provided supporters with huge entertainment and fun.
Antwerp pulled out a 21-11 victory over Ulaanbaatar in the first semifinal. Riga beat Amsterdam with 21-18.
The decisive game of the tournament was played between Antwerp and Riga. Riga defeated Antwerp in a nerve-racking game with a 21-19. It was an unbelievably tight game where the inspiration of one player practically decided the winner.
Both teams had advantages during the clash. Thibaut Vervoort, Antwerp’s star, was firing from all weapons again. Nauris Miezis from Riga was the factor x for Latvians and gave them victory with a free throw. His amazing 10 points in the final were crucial. You can see the highlights of the final game here:
Nauris Miezis got the MVP award of the competition. Nauris took second place in the Player Value category and shared first place in segment Scored Points in the Tournament.
Thibaut Vervoort received the accolade for Chooks to Go shoot-out contest. Piotr Grabowski, the famous dunker from Poland, was the best in Dunk Contest by Chooks.
The next Masters will be held in Paris on October 7-8.
