Thrilling and heated five days have passed in Bucharest. We saw unbelievably attractive 3×3 basketball in the capital of Romania. Polish men’s national squad and French ladies lifted trophies designed for the best teams in the world. It was the epilogue of the third edition of the U23 World Cup.
In the men’s competition, Latvia and China were members from pool A who qualified for the elimination stage.
Lithuania and Japan were first-placed and second placed in group B.
Poland and France got tickets for the best 8 from pool C.
Serbia and Germany proceeded from pool D to the quarterfinals.
In the first quarterfinal, Serbia pulled out a 20-17 victory over Japan. France beat Latvia with 21-10. Lithuania defeated Germany with 21-14. Poland won against China with 21-17 in the last quarterfinal.
The semifinals were no less interesting than the previous stage of the tournament.
Serbia defeated France with 17-15. Poland beat Lithuania with 21-18.
Poland pulled out a 21-20 victory over Serbia in the crazy final game. The game is one of the best games in 3×3 in 2022, for sure. You can watch the final full game here:
Serbia had everything in their hands during the game. Unfortunately, the result of 20-15 was not enough for the Serbian guys to become world champions. Poland did impossible. Mateusz Szlachetka, the Polish player, scored a decisive two-point shot and became the hero of the nation. Nikola Kovacevic was the leading scorer in the team of Serbia in the tournament.
France won against Lithuania with 21-14 in the game for third place. Lorenzo Thirouard-Samson, a French star, led his country to a bronze medal. Mateusz Szlachetka, Lorenzo Thirouard-Samson, and Nikola Kovacevic were included in the Team of the Tournament. Szlachetka won the MVP award.
In the women’s part of the draw, France beat the USA in a nerve-racking final with 21-18.
