Madagascar and Egypt won the 2022 Africa Cup!

African 3×3 basketball‘s popularity is growing gradually and the number of fans of this amazing sport is increasing. The fourth edition of the Africa Cup was held last weekend in the Egyptian capital Cairo.

Egypt won the tournament in the men’s and women’s categories in the last African Cup in 2019. The audience in Africa could see high-quality 3×3 basketball during these two days in Egypt.

Madagascar shocked the continent with victory in the 2022 Africa Cup in the men’s part of the draw. On the other hand, Egyptian ladies triumphed in the women’s tournament and confirmed domination. Let’s preview briefly what happened during the exciting continental championship.

In the men’s part of the draw, there were two groups with four teams. The first team in the group stage standings qualified for the semifinals directly, while second-place and third-place teams had to play qualifications for the Top 4 phase.

Rwanda was the first-placed team in group A, while Egypt and Madagascar earned tickets for qualifications for the semifinal.

Tunisia was the team with the highest ranking in pool B, while the Democratic Republic of Congo and Morocco were behind them in the pool standings.

The second-placed team from group A faced the third-placed team in pool B in qualifications for the Top 4 stage, and vice versa. Madagascar won against Rwanda with 18-11. Egypt beat Morocco with 14-12.

Madagascar pulled out a 21-14 victory over Rwanda in the first semifinal. Egypt defeated Tunisia with 21-18.

The final game was played between the surprise of the tournament Madagascar and host Egypt. Madagascar pulled out a big victory against Egypt with 20-17 and clinched the first-ever trophy at the continental championship.

In the women’s part of the draw, the same countries played a game for the gold medal with a different outcome. Egypt defeated Madagascar convincingly with 21-11.

Winners in the men’s and women’s categories qualified for the 2023 World Cup in Austria, while runner-ups earned cards for the 2023 World Cup Qualifier in Israel.
