An exciting and entertaining weekend in Malesia is behind us. The epilog that Serbian Liman became champion of Penang Challenger and won the fifth challenger in a row. They have now 25 wins out of 25 games in those tournaments in 2022. The winner and runner-up on this challenger have a spot on Paris Masters in World Tour 2022.
Let’s shortly preview what occurred in this competition.
Utsunomiya and Pirot qualified from qualifying draw A. Saitama and Lusail got tickets from qualifying draw B.
Saturday was the day also for group stage games.
Liman and Cebu were first-placed and second-placed teams in group A.
NY Harlem and Ulaanbaatar progressed from pool B to the quarterfinals.
Princeton and Utsunomiya got the cards from group C for the final 8.
Partizan and Saitama qualified in pool D for the elimination stage.
Quarterfinals, semifinals, and final games were scheduled for September 11, 2022.
Liman beat Utsunomiya with 21-15 in the first quarterfinal. Paris pulled out a 16-13 victory over Partizan. NY Harlem won against Saitama with 21-16. Princeton defeated Saitama with 22-17 in the last quarterfinal.
Semifinals provided a lot of fun for spectators in this Asian country. Liman defeated Paris with 22-13. NY Harlem pulled out a victory over Princeton with 21-18.
The final was played between Liman and NY Harlem.
Liman defeated NY Harlem with a convincing 21-9 in a decisive game. The victory of the Serbian team was never in question. Stefan Kojic and Miroslav Pasajlic from Liman scored practically everything they shot. Dominique Jones, NY Harlem’s star, was stopped in the final. He had a very good tournament overall. The top scorer of the tournament was Dominique Jones aka “Disco Domo” with unbelievable 54 points on his account. Miroslav Pasajlic had an MVP performance in this competition.
Liman and NY Harlem are participating in the ninth Masters of the World Tour 2022. Utrecht will also compete in the first-ever Masters held in France.
