It has been a marvelous couple of days last week in Hungary. The ninth edition of the planetary championship was held in Debrecen in both men’s and women’s categories. U18 World Cup 2022 showed why this is so a popular competition and cheered up a lot of spectators across the world.
France and USA won the titles in men’s and women’s part of the draw respectively.
France became the champion of the world for this age for the first time in the men’s tournament, while the USA won it for the sixth time in the female’s competition.
Serbia and Germany progressed from pool A to the Final 8. Latvia and Portugal got tickets from group B for the elimination stage. Slovenia and France qualified from pool C to the quarterfinals. Lithuania and Ukraine were first-placed and second-placed teams in Group D.
In the quarterfinal, Lithuania beat Portugal with 21-14. Ukraine won against Latvia with 21-15. Serbia defeated Slovenia with 21-15. France pulled out a 15-13 victory over Germany.
One semifinal was super-exciting. Serbia won against Lithuania with 21-19. France beat Ukraine with 18-11.
The final game was between France and Serbia. France pulled out a 21-17 victory over Serbia in a thrilling final. Mathys Kangudia led “Les Bleus” in the deciding game with 8 scored points. Ekwakwe Priso, another French player, got the MVP award.
Milan Suput, a star from Serbia, played excellently in the final and was a member of a team in the tournament beside Ekwakwe Priso and Rokas Jocys. Rokas plays for Lithuania who won the bronze medal. Lithuania won against Ukraine with 21-17 in a game for third place.

In the women’s part of the competition, USA beat Germany in the final with 21-11. It was the fourth consecutive gold medal for USA ladies. Mikaylah Williams got the MVP award for the second time in a row because she was the best scorer in the final and overall in the tournament.
Lina Falk from Germany and Alicia Florez from Spain were the other two members of the Team of the tournament. Spain finished third in the competition. Spain defeated France with 16-14 in a bronze medal match.
