NBA is, without a doubt, the most attractive national basketball league in the world. Families have a tradition in the USA to visit games during weekends after long working weeks. It’s an opportunity for them to spend some quality time watching their favorite players and teams in a heated atmosphere.
One of the guys who got used to do that is Corey Brewer. He was passionate about basketball in his young days and didn’t miss opportunities to watch games in his childhood. Love for this beautiful game continued and became one of the two most important things in his life. You can enjoy a reading story about a famous basketball player in the next couple of paragraphs.
How did Corey’s road in basketball start?
Corey Brewer began his college career by accepting an athletic scholarship at the University of Florida in 2004. He entered the team Florida Gator which was under the charge of Billy Donovan at that time. The impact of him and three other freshman members on the performances of the Gators was enormous in the next three years.
His contribution to winning titles in the NCAA championship in 2006 and 2007 was obvious to spectators.
After scoring the first triple-double in the history of Florida, Corey deserved the reputation of one of the potentially most wanted players in the 2006 NBA Draft. However, Brewer decided to put the accent on his growth and development by staying in NCAA until April of 2007.
What was the next step on the path of our hero?
The level of his play caught the NBA expert’s eye, brought him a first professional contract, and a chance to play with and against some of the biggest names in the most prestigious national basketball league in the world.
Minnesota was an NBA club where Corey Brewer started to build a name in professional basketball circles, being signed as the seventh pick overall in 2007. His form in Timberwolves in his rookie season had oscillations and improvement was seen in his sophomore year.
Unfortunately, a horrible anterior cruciate ligament tear put him off the court for the rest of the 2008-2009 season. It was a massive blow for Minnesota as Corey just before injury started to justify the pedigree with which he came to NBA.
How did Corey’s career continue after his injury in Minnesota?
Following his four “marked with injury” seasons in Timberwolves, Knicks decided to bring Brewer to their roster in February of 2011. Despite being greeted with big hype, New York released Corey already in March.
Corey Brewer made deal with Dallas two days after the shocking waiving and went on to win the title together with players like Jason Kidd, Dirk Nowitzki, Peja Stojakovic, etc. Those four months hero of our story describes as the most precious in his career, even though he was a help for the Mavericks from the bench.
The former Minnesota star put his signature on a contract with Denver along with Spanish player Rudi Fernandez in the winter of 2011. Nuggets were struck by injuries in the middle of the 2011/2012 season, so Corey got a chance to show how talented he is.
Brewer averaged 8.9 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.2 steals in 59 games in that season, which was a solid individual result.
What happened during the second tenure with Minnesota?
Second stint with the Timberwolves began with making a financial agreement with that team in July of 2013. $15 million contract was viewed by many basketball experts as overpayment considering the capabilities of the player.
At the end of the first season, Corey had a magnificent night against Houston Rockets where he went on to score 51 points in a tight victory. Brewer’s 51 points tied the individual record player Kevin Love achieved playing for the same franchise in 2012. You can watch this excellent individual performance here:
How was his experience in the next club?
In the final days of 2013, Brewer was signed by Houston in an exchange that included three NBA teams. In season 2014/2015 Corey had one of the best performances with scored 26 points and making 10 rebounds in a win over Toronto.
His extending of the contract with the Houston Rockets came in 2015, but belief in the ex-champion of the NBA didn’t pay off to the board of the club because he would shine on rare occasions. During his tenure with the Rockets, his speed and athleticism couldn’t be exploited in the right way since this team based their play mostly on long-range shots.
How did the “not successful” period in Houston affect Corey?
The inconsistency of Brewer’s form and his lack of adaptability in Houston didn’t hold back La Lakers from signing him at beginning of 2017. In the remaining part of the 2017/2018 season, Corey scored 5.4 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.
Expectations inside the club rose to a high level ahead of the start of the new season saying that they should be among the top 5 offensive and 10 defensive teams in the whole league. His presence in California came down only to helping younger players to become valuable assets to the club, so waiving him was inevitable in March.
What occurred with the player after failing to make an impact in LA Lakers?
After being waived by the La Lakers in 2018, Corey became a free agent and hunt for a new contract could begin. He managed to find a new club very soon after Oklahoma signed this small forward. Collaboration with his college coach Billy Donovan got the second part in City Thunders as this coach needed speed, spark, and energy in his squad.
Korey Brewer scored 10.1 points and 3.4 rebounds per game during 18 fixtures with Oklahoma City Thunder which was a solid impact on the club’s performances. However, the club chose younger players to lead the team at the end of the season, so there was no longer a place for Brewer on the roster.
Which were the last stops on Corey’s NBA journey?
Following his departure from Oklahoma, 32-year Brewer agreed with Philadelphia to help this team from the bench. The team was in a desperate moment at that time and looked for someone with flexibility and size and Corey’s characteristics fit that profile. His short-term contract with the 96ers ended soon and his search for the next collaboration began.
At the beginning of 2019, he made deal with Sacramento Kings who struggled with the defense back then. Korey Brewer is not known for his accurate shots so his low number of scored points was not a surprise. His contribution in the defensive part of the play was not maybe visible in stats, but surely present during the games.
The end of his NBA career for 34-years old Korey happened at the end of the 2019/2020 Covid-19 shortened season.
What were Brewer’s next plans?
After his NBA career, Corey was determined to continue playing and the logical consequence was choosing Fireball. Bivouac, the Big3 team, chose Brewer and Jeff Ayres on the draft in an attempt to improve their play. Gary Payton took charge of the team ahead of the start of the 2022 season and new blood helped them finish better than in the previous campaign.
Corey formed a powerful duo with Gerald Green and the hero of this story scored a decisive shot in week 4 against Triplets. However, 2 wins and 4 losses were not sufficient for making it to the playoff.

Although Big3 is more psychical than NBA, the experience of winning the trophy with Dallas in 2011 will suit the ambitions of Korey Brewer.
With the arrival of Corey Brewer, Bivouac showed signs of progress compared to the previous season in Fireball. Was it a random set of circumstances or the product of a good strategy of the Bivouac board? We will maybe get an answer in the next season of Big 3.
