Washington DC won Poitiers Challenger 2022

Washington DC won the trophy at the challenger in the French city Poitiers last Sunday. It was the third challenger in this season. Challenger is a qualification tournament for Masters as two first-placed teams get a ticket to Prague Masters on July, 30. Washington DC had its debut performance on challenger last weekend.

There were three teams included in each of the four groups on this challenger. Each team played against every other team in the group only once and the two best-ranked teams in the group qualified for the elimination stage.

Washington DC finished second-placed in his group because of the loss against Lithuanian club Kedainiai. Washington DC beat Amsterdam with 17-15 in the quarterfinals. Washington DC won against Danube with 21-13 in the semifinal game.

Marijampole, another Lithuanian club, was the first-placed team in the group with Washington. Marijampole lost against Washington DC with 20-17. The reason Marijampole was first because of the higher scored number of points per game. Marijampole pulled out a 20-14 victory over Podgorica in the quarterfinal. Marijampole then stunned Ub with a 21-20 victory in the semifinal.

The final game between Marijampole and Washington DC was back and forth. Washington DC led 15-13 a couple of seconds before the end of the game and then Aurimas Urbonas hit a long distanced shot to snatch a draw, 15-15. The game went to overtime where players from Washington DC were less nervous. Khalil Iverson scored a decisive two points shot. Washington DC beat Marijampole 17-16.

It was announced later that Keaton Wallace, a Washington DC player, was MVP of the tournament. Keaton had six points and four rebounds per game in five played fixtures. The best scorer in the competition was Evaldas Džiaugys from Marijampole with 40 points.

Finalists from this challenger joined Ub, Riga, Liman Huishan, Sakiai Gulbele, Ulaanbaatar, Omaha3Ball, and Bielefeld TSVE on the list of teams who will participate third Masters of World Tour.
