Marina Bay Sands, a famous resort in Singapore, will host the best Asian 3×3 basketball players in the next five days. Fifty-three teams in both men’s and women’s categories will compete for the title of the best team in the biggest continent on Earth. The last Asian tournament was held three years ago and Singapore, the place where 3×3 basketball was seen for the first time at the Olympic Youth game, is ready to organize a big event like this.
Qualifications will be played on the first two days of the competition to determine all participants in the main draw. Three teams in the male’s part of the main draw are all already known and those are Mongolia, Australia, and Singapore. We also know that Mongolia, Japan, Singapore, Australia, Chinese Taipei, Sri Lanka, and China are participating in the main draw in the women’s competition.
Australia won the previous Asia Cup in Chinese Changsha in both categories. Australia will be again one of the favorites besides Mongolia and Japan in the male’s tournament. In women’s competition, China is regarded as the main contender for the title with Japan and Mongolia as her biggest rivals.
The main draw of the Asia cup has four groups with three teams. The format of the competition is the same for men and women. Each team played against every other team in the group and the two first-placed teams will progress to the quarterfinals stage. Group stage matches are set to be played on 8th and 9th July, while quarterfinal semifinals, game for third place, and final are expected to be held on Sunday 10th July.
Supporters are impatiently waiting to see Anand Ariunbold, a Mongolian player whose performance in Singapore can raise him to unprecedented heights. Greg Hire, an Australian star, won already the title of World Champion in 2019 and he will be against the biggest strength of Aussies. The national men’s squad of Japan has Tomoya Ochiai aka “Worm” who is always capable to produce magical things on the court.
Lili Wang is expected to shine one more time for China in the women’s part of the draw. Young Ariuntsetseg Bat-Erdene proved recently in World Cup in Antwerp that Mongolia can rely on her in upcoming years. Jillian Harmon from New Zealand is very dangerous in paint and she is the lady you should put attention to in the next few days.
This summer days will be a lot easier for you if you turn on the TV or computer and look at the hot action in Singapore.
