Introduction to 3x3 Learn

The Character Of 3X3

According to FIBA, 3×3 is continuous basketball, excitement, and fun. 3×3 was created by and strongly linked to streetball and old-school basketball. However, this connection was cut off when the official rules for 3×3 were enacted, and the game developed its own distinct identity.

Definition Of 3×3 Basketball

3×3 basketball (pronounced three-ex-three) is a contact game on one basket in a half-court setup played by two teams of four (it can be played with 3 because 1 is starting on the bench). Teams aim to score a basket by shooting a ball into the hoop elevated 3.05 meters (10 feet) above the floor. A team wins if it achieves 21 points first or scores more points at the end of the 10 minutes time frame.

Accessibility, Approachability, and Non-Commitment

The rules and organizational structure of 3×3 are as it is because of its non-committal character that is approachable and accessible. Its accessibility is an essential aspect of the game and can be seen in various ways.

3×3 is a game that can be played outdoors or indoors all year long and is simple and adaptable enough to be played by players of all genders and levels in a professional, developmental or leisure environment.

For a 3×3-based game, six players require only a basketball court or playground with one basket and a ball. There may be challenging to gather enough players to play the classical basketball game, but it’s easier to find just enough players to play 3×3.

Contrary to professional events, governed mainly by FIBA 3×3, the grassroots tournaments are organized by national federations or private promoters, which comprise the majority of competitions.

The requirements for entry to these grassroots tournaments are low to ensure they can be accessed via an online platform where previous playing experiences are not needed. Most teams who apply are permitted to participate, leading to many teams playing in grassroots tournaments as organizers attempt to make sure that every participant takes part and enjoys themselves.

The simplicity of involvement in 3×3 activities is essential to its growth and success. So as is the non-commitment aspect, players participating in 3×3 do not have to be restricted to a specific team or club and are free to explore playing with anyone they want at grassroots competitions.

In addition, FIBA 3×3’s ambitious motto of “from the streets to the world stage” is important because it demonstrates a compelling path for every player. FIBA 3×3’s system model means that teams start at the bottom of the pyramid but can progress to elite levels. FIBA also desires to expand 3×3 across the globe and ensure equality of opportunity. As a major goal of 3×3, FIBA 3×3 makes it realistic for every country to play in World Cups and other tournaments.

Last but not least, youngsters can join 3×3 because the application process is conducted more casually than in classical basketball, in which a player must join a club, take part in training sessions, and pay monthly and annual fees before participating in an organized league.

To participate in 3×3 as a team, a player can sign up for a single day or two prior to an event and doesn’t need to be a part of a league or federation. Exactly this non-committal nature of 3×3 can be an excellent opportunity to introduce youngsters to basketball. 3×3 is also easily accessed by fans via free streaming services and no-cost entry to events in most cities.

Events can be staged outdoors, like the WT in Lausanne, Switzerland.

I think more people are getting into it because it’s a fun, easy sport. It’s not like other sports where you need all this equipment.

I think this brand of basketball has a chance to take over the world.…Now, kids can say, you know what, I didn’t make my basketball high school team, but I think I can make this 3×3 team, or create my own team and be competitive.
