Tension is building up ahead of qualifications for the Europe Cup

Pools for qualifiers for the Europe Cup 2022 that is going to be held in the Austrian city Graz were announced. The last Europe Cup was played in Paris last year and the winner in man’s competition was Serbia. Serbia won it for the third consecutive time with the players like Mihailo Vasic and Dejan Majstorovic aka Maestro. Graz is going to host 24 countries and 12 of 24 are fighting in male and 12 are participating in female competition. This year’s Europe Cup is set to be permanent action for three days in September. Forty national federations have filed registration papers for qualifiers for the 7th edition of the European Cup. Seventy-six teams have registered and that fact shows the fast-paced manner of the progress of this game. Fourteen teams, 8 women’s teams, and 6 men’s teams will get a ticket to the final tournament in Austria.

The qualification will be played in three cities: Tel Aviv (Israel), Limassol (Cyprus), and Constanta (Romania). Already qualified are teams based on previous success, hosting, and rankings. In man’s part of the competition are Austria (Hosts), Serbia (reigning champions), Lithuania, Latvia, Belgium, and Netherlands (Federation Ranking). In the Women’s draw, those are: Austria (Hosts), Spain (reigning champions), Germany, and France (Federation Ranking).

Both sexes that are going to play qualification in Cyprus will compete in a Round Robin system with 2 groups followed by knockout rounds. Only winners of both categories will take place in Europe Cup from 9-11 September. Qualifiers in Israel and Romania will be held also in Round Robin format but in 4 groups. Quarterfinal stage will be elimination round. In the man’s part of the draw winners of two semifinal matches will qualify directly for the final tournament. In the woman’s competition, the winners of two semifinal clashes and the winner of the game between semifinal losers will get a ticket to Graz.  Additionally, the best third-placed team in the man’s competition and the best fourth-ranked team in the woman’s tournament in Tel Aviv and Constanta will also deserve a place in the prestigious FIBA 3×3 Europe Cup 2022. Basketball fever is shaking all 3×3 spectators four months before the grand finale.
