Darnell Jackson, NBA veteran with Big3 experience

It’s not bad to remind ourselves that NBA players have private lives besides their careers and training. Many of them had to deal with painful experiences in childhood, so it was not easy to go through all the obstacles on the road to the stars. We can remember the examples of Kevin Love, Royce White, DaJuan Summers, etc.

One of the players who suffered a lot psychologically out of court was Darnell Jackson. The former NBA star was literally in a hopeless situation, but found a way to get out of that and continue his personal and professional development. Let’s look at his playing biography in the next couple of paragraphs.

How was Darnell’s college time in Kansas?

The hero of today’s story had a horrible 2005 in which he really experienced a hard time. His grandmother’s death was followed by getting a nine-game suspension for receiving payments from Kansas booster.

Jackson spent his senior 2007/2008 season in Kansas gaining a lot of attention from NBA scouts thanks to amazing performances. Darnell averaged 6.7 rebounds throughout that campaign helping his team win the league.

Eventually, he was a leader of his squad in shooting percentage and rebounds at the end of 2007/2008. All these facts recommended him to many NBA clubs, so the next step for Darnell was participating in draft in the most popular national league in the world.

What was the thing in Big3 that attracted him the most?

One of the things that attracted Darnell to join Big3 in its fourth season was some kind of reunion with former teammates and rivals at Combine. Combine is a show ahead of the beginning of every season where potential members show their skills and talents in front of Fireball’s team scouts.

A second big factor that persuaded Jackson to play in Ice Cube’s project was an opportunity to be close to his family since the semi-touring model was present ahead of the start of 2021.

What did coach Nancy Lieberman tell him before the challenges?

Lady Magic” told him in a personal 1 on 1 meeting that it’s not about the individual, but the team is the most important thing. Her honesty and direct approach to the Big3 stars is something all of the players mention as her biggest virtue, including Darnell. Those words stuck into the brain and memory of this enormously gifted player and guided him through all of the obstacles later.

Also, her message was related to behavior off the court. That’s one of the reasons why Jackson grew up later and improved himself more in that field.

How was the chemistry between Power’s players?

Cuttino Mobley, the veteran in Power’s team, welcomed warmly Darnell and gave him the necessary support before the challenges the team had in the upcoming campaign. Generally, the atmosphere in the roster was superb as players motivated each other to give maximum on the court.

The main symbol of collaboration between those stars and the coach was putting the other person’s needs first. A big accent was also put on developing tactically and technically on the training grounds. Consequentially, it was planned that the culmination and peak of the player’s potential should be in the crucial moments of fixtures.

How difficult was it for Jackson to adapt to the new team’s culture?

After the pandemic started to slow down, Power chose Darnell not because of his playing abilities, but also his skills to adapt to new environment and culture. Nancy and Cuttino recognized the right mindset and attitude Jackson had and decided to sign him without hesitation.

After a careful scouting process, they noticed that this player can play and also understand the game in a good way. Following impressive Darnell’s performance at Combine, Power brought him hoping he can be a huge contribution to the team’s results and atmosphere in the locker room.

Which players did he like to play with?

Dusan Bulut and Darnell Jackson both played in European leagues and that was one thing that made them a powerful duo on the court. Second was that Jackson anticipated and understood Dusan’s view on pick and roll, so they had good offensive actions together.

Glen “Big Baby” Davis was also one of favorite Jackson’s teammates because of his sense of humor, love of adventures, and exploring new sorts of food.

The third guy our hero liked to play with was problematic Royce White. In his opinion, Royce always sacrificed himself to help others and make them better persons and players.

How successful was the debut Jackson’s season in Fireball?

Power did a really good job with bringing new players during the season warm-up. The arrival of Joe Alexander raised the desires of this team’s spectators to the maximum. Unfortunately, Nancy Lieberman’s squad didn’t show mental strength in deciding moments of the campaign. Good tactical analysis was done before the start of the contest, but heads were still not ready for attacking the trophy.

The 4-4 score was not enough for qualifying for the playoff, so players only could reconcile with the current circumstances and prepare for the next season.

What happened with Jackson in the 2022 season?

Mike TaylorRicky Davis, and Chris Johnson were forming a powerful trio in Ghost Ballers. Following not so successful season spent in Power, Darnell Jackson was picked by this team in 1st round of the 2022 Big3 Draft. Jermaine Taylor also came to the Ballers squad, so expectations were high ahead the start of the competition.

However, Ghost Ballers disappointed fans as they finished the regular part of the season with three wins and four victories. They fell short and missed qualifying for Final Four, so Darnell was very devastated after the campaign.

What are Darnell’s plans in the world of basketball?

During his 5×5 basketball career, Jackson was interested in coaching methods. Darnell was always asking different coaches about their approaches to the fixtures gathering knowledge. Transition to the bench was easier exactly because of the pieces of advice he received throughout his playing days. Currently, the hero of today’s story works with Chris Johnson and Just Hoops leading many former NBA stars.

Having Chris Johnson as a mentor in the process of developing players is an amazing experience for Darnell Jackson. After all, he didn’t think a lot when an offer to join Just Hoops was received.

What does Jackson say about emotions on the court?

Darnell encourages all players and persons to learn to express emotions healthily. Jackson points out that opposite behavior can lead to addictions which can be destructive to mental health. Our hero for today praised Royce White for going out in public with his mental health issues.

Darnell Jackson followed his example and talked publicly about his sadness over his mom’s death. Finally, this guy recommends people to learn, pay attention to details, and grow day by day. In the end, former Power’s power forward say it’s challenging but possible.

No matter how hard the circumstances are, you can always keep your head up and keep going to your goal. Darnell Jackson is living proof of that statement, ladies and gentlemen. Losing both parents was very stressful for him, but a hero of our story strengthened on his thorny path. Nowadays, he is sharing meaningful insights about life with the younger generation hoping they can overachieve him.
