MIES (Switzerland) – Anticipation is soaring as the countdown to 3×3 basketball’s second appearance at the Olympics begins. Six elite teams have secured their spots for the highly anticipated 3×3 basketball competition at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The selection process for these teams was based on the FIBA 3×3 Federation Ranking as of November 1, 2023. In a thrilling culmination of qualifying events, the top three countries per gender secured their places for the Olympic stage.
Men’s Competition:
1. Serbia – The reigning bronze medallists from 3×3’s Olympic debut in Tokyo asserted their dominance, finishing atop the rankings
2. USA – 3×3 World Cup 2023 silver medallists, despite missing out on the Tokyo Olympic Games, secured a spot and will be determined to make their mark in Paris.
3. China – Clinched a direct qualification spot, showcasing their rapid progress in the discipline.
Women’s Competition:
1. China – The bronze medallists from Tokyo topped the women’s rankings, setting the stage for an exciting Olympic campaign.
2. USA – The reigning Olympic gold medallists affirmed their supremacy and will be vying for another triumph in Paris.
3. France – With their exceptional performance, France secured their place among the elite, promising an intense battle on the court.
While these six teams have secured their spots, there are still five tickets available per gender for the 3×3 Olympic competition. These remaining slots will be fiercely contested in a trio of Olympic qualifying tournaments in the first half of 2024. The host locations and the teams participating in these Olympic qualifying tournaments will be announced in December.
The highly anticipated 3×3 Olympic event is scheduled to take place from July 30 to August 5, 2024, at the iconic Place de la Concorde, nestled in the heart of Paris. This historic location, near renowned landmarks such as the Grand Palais, Champs-Elysées, and The Louvre, serves as the perfect backdrop for this electrifying competition. With a capacity to host over 5000 spectators, Place de la Concorde is set to become the epicenter of 3×3’s exciting atmosphere during the Games.
Latvia’s men and USA’s women emerged as the inaugural gold medallists in 3×3 basketball during the Tokyo Olympics, adding an extra layer of excitement to the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic competition.
